Blame It On The Boogie Radio - Episode 1: Moodymann
I am very happy to finally release to the world Blame It On The Boogie Radio Episode 01! I've had the idea to do this show for a few months, so I'm excited to share it with the world. I don't have time for a show with any kind of regular schedule, so I'm just going to pretend like I'm a radio DJ with a show on a radio station and post them online and hand out some CDs.
Each episode will have a theme, and this episode's theme is Moodymann (real name: Kenny Dixon, Jr.). I always leave Detroit obsessed with a new DJ, and this year it was Moodymann. I didn't even see him play, but I did go outside his house. He had purple curtains up blowing out of every window and he was blasting Prince (and has been since the day he died). A lucky Thump reporter got to go inside (and take pictures!). I highly recommend you read that link!
This show has 14 songs, most of which are funk, but there is some house, jazz, and R+B mixed in. There are 2 Moodymann originals and 2 other songs he is associated with. There are also several hidden funk gems, and a tribute to a great one we lost last week: Bernie Worrell. I'll have another episode up in a few weeks and until then enjoy and please let me know what you think in the comments!
